Paul Gauguin and Claude Monet

The final paintings in this section are the attempts at the work of Gauguin and Monet, the latter I can hardly type, thinking I had the nerve to try one of his. Ok. I'll admit it. I've always had a hard time with Paul Gauguin, but now, after having looked into the subject I think he had some bad press. It's true; he left his wife and children. after having achieved a fair amount of success on the stock exchange to become a painter. I'm no longer going to hold that against him. Facts are he sent paintings home to be sold, which they were with monies going to support the family. The use of his

story without all the facts has given Paul a bad representation. Her family, for instance, never "approved" of him as a painter. I find his life much more interesting and honest. and frankly I'd rather look at his paintings than a list of his stock transactions placed in the late 1800’s.

Of all the painters I love, Claude Monet is the most spectacular and in a league by himself. I've looked at his work at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and as a painter looking at the Face

of Rouen Cathedral (1894), have no idea how he did it. Most paintings have a logical way in which they could be approached, but in the work of father Claude a new world of light exists.

I intent to paint until some understanding of that place exists in my work, and hope my impression

of Impression Sunrise does not offend.
