To My Son, Jason

I had hoped

to write a poem of such power

it's words would describe the feeling

of seeing you before your first breath

You looked at me before you were

As I stood, wondering how to tell you

Answers to questions

You hadn’t yet thought.

Answers still plague me

As each brings new questions

And questions grow heavy with time.

Are you the pure answer to my questions?

The mystery of your life

Is an ancient truth

And I know God

Gave me you as a reason.

I love you Jason

Though you’ve not uttered a word,

All of me is yours

And together we’ll be.
