Two twenty two, a Christmas
Saga
We stood as two boxers
would
throwing left hooks at
the name of love.
Each looking on the face
of the other
sensing our futility.
Driving the force of
home and family
from our harbours, we,
both, stood alone.
Dark and cold filled our
places
where once stood the
warmth of happiness.
Flowing in night, we
were armed.
Two deer, chased by
wolves.
You and 1 cried as
lovers do
when the pain comes from
separation.
Still, seeing our hurt
we moved to places on
the edge of each,
touching souls at two
twenty two.
We defined mutual
positions.
You, saying confusion,
me, never knowing.
Slaying egos, thinking
of you as mortar.
We, holding each other
in tears
through fear of
commitments,
us touching, in warm
embraces.
I’ll always remember
putting plans back.
We hoped, moving arms
length
back towards center.
Now, facing time
hope will always exist.
Our lives may merge
again.
While now,
nights silence, remembering.
Stillness. Tomorrows.
Apart from you.
I'll always love you.
Alexis and I were no more.
